Spain M42 Model Z Combat Helmet c.1943

A extremely well preserved 1st type helmet.

The M42 sometimes referred to as a Model Z was first issued in 1943, modeled entirely on the German M40 but with a raw edge. The early pattern leather liner was retained and provision was made at the front of the helmet for the "Emblem of the Earth Army" badge which was removable. This pattern helmet was continued to be issued well after WWII but with obvious modifications as the (M42/79)

This is a first pattern unmodified helmet with all of its original green painted finish and first pattern three-pad leather liner and two-part leather chinstrap. Many - most? - of these were refurbished in the late70s/1980s as the M42/79. This example has escaped all that.

Overall excellent condition.
