A Napoleonic Period British 1796 Pattern Flank Officers Fighting Sword

1796 pattern stirrup hilt with wire bound ray skin grip. Broad 34mm slightly cure Ed pipe back blade. This with a fair amount of heavy pitting on both side from the tip to half way down the blade. Overall length 95cm. No makers mark.
Comes with its matching all steel scabbard. Missing one of the throat screws and one of the suspension rings is missing half of one side. Has an only two light dents and light overall pitting.

Flank officers fought along the sides of the main army column. They were highly mobile riflemen / grenadiers who used their swords as a weapon of last choice in close combat. As such they had a preference for shorter more agile slashing sabres similar but shorter to cavalry sabres.
