A fine quality manufacture first war Austrian Military Merit Cross Third Class with War Decoration; a silver cross pattée with the arms of the cross with red and white enamels, along with a laurel wreath between the arms; the obverse with a central white enameled medallion, inscribed “Verdienst” (German - Merit) in silver lettering; the reverse completely in white enamels; on a squared loop for suspension, with its period original tri-fold ribbon; measuring 30.83 mm x 31.46 mm; weighing 17.3 grams. Accompanied by its original case of issue; constructed of heavy pressed paper, with a faux leather (leatherette) exterior; lined interior lid - marked “V Mayer Sohne Juweliere Wien” in golden lettering; recessed medal bed; functional spring catch with stud release; intact fabric hinge catches; functional dual exterior metal hinges; measuring 60 mm x 105 mm. The top of the case with very heavy scuffing and a hole through the center.
