British / Australian WW1 Brodie Helmet
Original sand grip khaki painted finish. British pattern with flat folded rivets securing the chinstrap swivels. Has original intact Oilcloth liner (false leather) still with its War Office Brodies Pattern Helmet stamp on the underside and an inner net and felt pad secured by the original leather chinstrap. The chinstrap with heavy wear consummate with age. It has overall crazing and nearly torn through in a couple of places requiring fragile handling.
7.5 million "Brodie" helmets were manufactured, designated "Helmet, Steel, MkI"
This example is the more common pattern which is identified by the rim and these were implemented from around June 1917 together with a slightly improved liner material or artificial leather for the headband.The shell is stamped "DA 121 " which is the shell manufacturer for James Dixon & Sons Ltd of Sheffield, with the steel supplied by Edgar Allen & Co Ltd, both also of Sheffield.
