Venezuelan Model M1924/49 Long Bayonet
No ordnance or proof stamps. It has a serial number to the back of the pommel.
Sword bayonet for use on the 7 mm. FN Model 1949 self-loading rifle.
Venezuela received 8,000 FN Model 1949 rifles from 1949-51. This was the first production order for the Model 1949 rifle.
This order pre-dated FN's development of the Model 1949 knife bayonet. Venezuela opted for a modification of the existing M1924 Long Mauser export bayonet. The M1924/49 Long bayonet is identical to the Mauser version, except for the much larger muzzle ring.
The M1924/49 Long bayonet was also adopted by Indonesia. Indonesia received 16,000 Model 1949 rifles from 1952-53 (Army contract) and another 100 in 1961 (Navy contract).
The M1924/49 bayonet is historically significant as the last new sword bayonet type adopted by a major army.
