Australia WW2 Colour Patch
This colour patch is not listed in Glyde book. Whilst it has a distinct appearance to No.1411 ( Field Units RAOC) but has a very unusual coloured backing. A small sticker on the reverse indicates it might be tuned by the Canadian radar group stationed in Australia during WW2. I can’t prove this but if this is correct it makes this patch incredibly rare.
During WWII, a Canadian radar group was sent to Australia to train personnel, maintain, and operate radar equipment, specifically at locations like Ash Island, Newcastle. The group arrived in Australia in late 1944 and included personnel from the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME). This initiative supported Australia's own radar network in its defense against potential Japanese air attacks.
