German WW1 Prussian M1915 Jager Enlisted Ranks Shako

German WW1 Prussian M1915 Jager Enlisted Ranks Shako.

An excellent condition Imperial Prussian Jäger enlisted man's Mannschaften (other ranks or EM / NCO) Tschako (Shako).

The M1915 was the last model of Tschako issued prior to the move to steel helmets, and replaced the earlier M1895 and M1897 patterns. In accordance with the 1915 regulations, these helmets would now use grey painted steel fittings for all Regiments. The body was constructed from from boiled leather, which was shaped and lacquered black.
This is an excellent textbook example, and features an oxide finished Prussian wappen (front plate) , the size correct for shakos and smaller than a pickelhaube plate that features the state eagle clutching a scepter and crown, over the King's motto, MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND (With God for King and Country).

Both M1891 pattern side lugs are present but have been polished to the base metal. To the right side an Oldenberg state cockade (red and black). The cockade lugs also polished back to base metal. To the left side a Prussian black and white state cockade.

to the top of the body mounted above the helmet plate a wooden wrapped Prussian state cockade.

The chinstrap leather is a replacement whilst the chinstrap buckle fittings are original but also polished back to a base metal.

The interior features a nice original leather liner, which showing some age and use but no damage. All fingers are intact, and still have intact securing strap holes, with the strap still installed. Size is 57 stamped at the crown of the interior, which also has a faint manufacturer stamp but illegible. Dated 1916.

The exterior of the helmet shell is really in great shape, with a nice shiny enamel finish, with lovely age checking/cracking, but no real damage The front and rear visors are still attached with intact stitching, another rarity, The Tschako also has the correct 8 hole metal ventilation fittings on each side.
Overall a nice clean looking example.
