Australia WW1 Other Ranks Tunic
A rare original Australian WW1 other ranks service dress tunic.
Khaki wool four pocket tunic with pressed leather "football " buttons, with integral cloth belt and brass buckle. Oxidized rising sun collar badges.
It is interesting to note that this tunic has no shoulder straps and looks to never have had any possibly indicating that this is a "Coming Home" style tunic. This appears to be a tailor made tunic rather than an army ordnance issue tunic.
This style of a “ Coming Home” tunic is also apparent in the fact that it has never been lined inside. No maker's label, or named.
The shoulders have had round colour patches & corporal rank at one time but now removed.
Evidence of service wear with soiling around the collar, shoulders and sleeves. Used & worn. Has small repair, some small moth holes. A small repair to the chest. Overall VGC.
“Coming Home” tunics were evident in the period 1918-1919 when soldiers returning from the filth of the front would often privately purchase a new tunic, often tailored and a having smarter look for service whilst still in the UK and abroad or returning to Australia.
