Japan WW2 “End of War” Period Imperial Japanese Navy Officers Sword

By 1945, there were numerous "desperation" end of war varieties of shin-gunto being produced both in Japan and in the areas of Japanese occupation. These swords have plain copper, brass or iron mounts, simple wire tassel loops, low grade brown/tan/green ito, and poorly constructed black painted wood saya, some with leather scabbard covers. This is very good example of one of these variations.

The bright blade with no obvious hamon line. The tang not signed and with single hole. The hilt with Showa period naval regulation white same’ with brown binding and Sterling silver chrysanthemum manuki. The hilt with “end of war “ brass fittings. The tsuba of a brass non voided army style and the brass army style pommel engraved with a rising sun , chrysanthemum and naval anchor. The fuchi also brass with an engraved pattern and chrysanthemum. The hilt fittings all matching in age and engravings. The sword tassel ring of a thin brass wire.

Comes with its black leather covered wooden scabbard with Naval Officer regulation double ring belt sling rings and fits very well to the blade. The small leather blade retaining strap with pressstud matched to the black leather scabbard. Overall in excellent condition and a rather interesting wartime example.
