Australia Pre-Federation Ballarat Rangers Busby

An extremely rare example of the other ranks pattern Busby worn almost exclusively in Australia by the Ballarat Rangers or Ballarat Rifle Corps c.1860-1880s.

Black bear skin fur busby body in very good condition with the correct dual coloured horse hair hackle in red and black, this most notably to have been worn by the Ballarat Rangers. It conforms to their the black uniform with color facings of scarlet red. Complete with a correct blackened metal chain chain, fixed in position and large blackened or oxidized bugle hat badge fixed to front.

The interior with full cotton lining and a light brown leather sweatband. The sweatband with some light wear but is intact. The whole interior devoid of any markings or manufacturers label, this in line with other noted items made in the United Kingdom on order and shipped to Australia for use with the Pre-Federation Local Forces. Retains a nice shape and the fur is in very good condition.

Comes with a framed glazed print of the nationally famous Monte Wedd Australian Pre-Federation series of uniform, this one featuring a Ballarat Ranger, wearing such busby.

Wonderful condition , extremely rare and really mer seen at all on the market. In fact I don’t know of any in museums or private hands.
