Australia Pre-Federation NSW Marked Yataghan Sword Bayonet.
An Australian pre-Federation issue Yataghan Bayonet c. 1856/1860 marked to the New South Wales Government. The steel yataghan blade with areas of both heavy tone and some surface pit rust, the blade maker marked by the German manufacturer Kirschbaum but devoid of all other English proof and acceptance markings. A common trait on other known Pre-Federation issued bayonets. Original fiber grips in good condition and working locking stud. The cross guard stamped on the right hand side 85150 and New South Wales government to the left-hand side. The brown leather scabbard dated 1890 on the reverse in supple brown leather is in good condition however, the chape is heavily rusted, and in near state of becoming detached from the scabbard. Also comes with brown leather pattern 1888 frog. A rare marked bayonet.
