The Victorian Diggers Contingent was a major delegation of about 470 returned Australian soldiers from Victoria who travelled to Tasmania in late April 1939 to participate in Anzac Day commemorations.The contingent traveled across Bass Strait aboard the vessel Nairana, arriving at King’s Wharf in Launceston at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 1939. They were met with a rousing reception by a crowd estimated to exceed 1,500 people. Following their arrival, the diggers participated in Anzac Day observations before concluding their tour and departing from Tasmania on April 27, 1939. The visit is commemorated through historic medallions and ribbons, often crafted by Melbourne's K.G. Luke
