Australia WW1 Webley and Scott Very Signal Pistol
Brass No.1 MK III 1 inch " Very" Pattern flare gun. British made by Webley and Scott. Clearly marked with "D" arrow Australian acceptance stamps.
Of brass construction. Steel barrelled release catch, and steel hammer and trigger assembly. Grips are of wood. Lanyard loop at base of grip. Overall in fantastic clean fully working condition. Impossible to upgrade from this one.
From 1914-19 the British government placed orders for 187,000 signal pistols. Also known as ‘Very Pistols’ after their cartridge, they were used during the War for signalling purposes and to provide illumination in hours of darkness. In 1915 the butt swivel was added enabling the pistol to be more easily carried.
