Australia WW1 Army Officers Winter Service Dress Tunic

An unattributed textbook example service dress tunic as worn by officers into the field and trenches.

Thick, heavy khaki whipcord wool material with open collar, two chest pockets with broad plates and two large bellow hip pockets. Pressed leather buttons (one top pocket one is dictated and held in place by cotter pin) and fixed brass belt ramps to the rear sides. There is evidence (shadow marks) of once having a ribbon bar sewn in place but now removed. (Perhaps a post war addition by the original wearer).

Blackened rising sun collar badges. To the shoulder straps a pair of oxidised "Australia" nationality titles and oxidised rank for Major. Interesting to note that both the titles and the rank have correct overlocked lug holes specifically for these particular badges and not just pushed through the material.

Fully lined interior. The tailors label long removed or worn out. The exterior exhibiting some areas of heavy moth damage in particular to a large area on the top left chest pocket.

Unfortunately this tunic has had an attack of time and poor storage. With the addition of a leather equipment add to the display the damage will soon be lost. A change to obtain a genuine WW1 officer tunic at a reasonable price.
