WW1 Australian Light Horse Slouch Hat

A very rare , original example. Khaki fur felt in a classic field mouse brown. This example with double Puggaree, the first an unfolded khaki wool one with some moth nips. Over this is the second one a Three fold khaki cotton puggaree. It’s not uncommon to see a double puggaree but the reason why is unclear. A very nicely shaped emu plume is attached. The original leather sweatband has unfortunately come out and is not included. There is two post war applied hand written names on the inside. Textbook colour, construction to being a WW1 period made hat.
Has a British made Rising Sun hat badge with slider reverse fixed to the left side brim. Missing the brim hook and eye side fastening so the slider from the hat badge is used to secure the brim upright and thus sliding into the Puggaree.

Obvious wear and soiling consummate with age. Overall in spite of not having a dated liner it makes up for in shape and character.

A beautiful worn example. The panicle item of most WW1 collections in this country and abroad.
