A Rare German Private Purchase Civilian Hunting Sawback Bayonet (Seitengewehr)
A private purchase bayonet made to fit a sporting rifle. The cross guard fitted to accommodate two sizes of barrel with a wing nut tightening screw. The sawback blade maker marked “F HERDER ABR SOHN SOLINGEN”. This would date the bayonet to c.1891 and in 1915 when the company name change to F. Herder and Sohn.
